Custom Iron Gates in Tucson, AZ
Southwest Iron Works designs and builds custom iron gates for homeowners throughout Tucson, Marana, Oro Valley, Dove Mountain, Rita Ranch, and Vail. Every gate is fabricated in-house by our team — not outsourced, not off-the-shelf. If you can picture it, we can build it.

Types of Custom Iron Gates We Build
Not every gate serves the same purpose, and not every property has the same layout. Southwest Iron Works builds several types of custom iron gates depending on your access points, your lot, and how you want your property to look and function.
Driveway gates are the most common request. They span the full width of a vehicle entrance and can be built as a single swing gate, double swing gate, or sliding gate depending on your driveway configuration and available clearance. We build both manual and automation-ready driveway gates.
Courtyard gates are pedestrian-scale gates that create a defined entry into a front courtyard, side yard, or walled garden area. They’re one of the most visible features on a Tucson home and a strong opportunity to add decorative ironwork that complements the architecture.
Pedestrian gates secure side yard access points, walkways, and secondary entrances without requiring a full driveway gate installation. They work well alongside perimeter fencing or walls.
Pool and patio enclosure gates provide access control to outdoor living areas. In Tucson, these are often paired with wrought iron fencing or decorative panels that tie into the broader outdoor living design.

Why Tucson Homeowners Choose Custom Iron Gates
A custom iron gate does more than mark a property boundary. It defines the entrance, sets the visual tone for everything behind it, and adds a layer of security that a chain-link or wood gate simply cannot match.
Iron holds up in the Tucson climate. It handles extreme heat, monsoon rains, and UV exposure without warping, rotting, or degrading the way wood does. A properly finished iron gate — powder coated and correctly installed — will outlast almost any alternative by decades.
Beyond durability, iron gives you design flexibility. Our customers choose from over 150 designs and can customize scrollwork, picket spacing, panel inserts, decorative finials, and powder coat color. You’re not choosing from a catalog — you’re working with fabricators who build to your drawing.
Our Iron Gate Fabrication Process
Every custom iron gate at Southwest Iron Works starts on our hardened steel, plasma nitride treated welding tables with a modular clamping system that keeps everything straight and properly aligned during fabrication.
Our fabrication team uses computerized drawings so the finished gate matches the design exactly. We use MIG, TIG, and stick welding depending on the application, and our fabricators inspect each gate through multiple stages before it leaves our shop. The majority of our fabrication crew has been with us for over 10 years.
Once fabrication is complete, each gate goes through sandblasting and powder coating in-house, which gives us control over the finish quality and lets us create custom color options beyond a standard black.
Installation is handled by our own trained and certified technicians — no subcontractors. Lead technicians are certified with a minimum of 250 class II installs. After installation, your technician walks you through operation, adjustment, and maintenance so you know exactly how your gate works.
Design Options for Custom Iron Gates
Your gate should look like it was made for your property — because it was. Southwest Iron Works offers a wide range of design options so you can build a gate that matches your home’s architecture and your personal style.
Popular design choices include:

- Decorative finials and post caps
- Matching pedestrian gate to pair with a driveway gate
- Custom powder coat colors beyond standard black
Many customers start with a gate from our security gates gallery and then customize it. Others come in with a photo, a sketch, or just a description of what they want — and we work from there.
Iron Gates Built for Tucson’s Desert Climate
Tucson’s summers are hard on materials. Temperatures regularly exceed 100 degrees, UV exposure is intense, and monsoon season brings moisture, wind, and debris. Iron, when properly fabricated and finished, handles all of it.
Southwest Iron Works uses a sandblasting and powder coat process applied in-house that creates a durable, weather-resistant finish. Powder coating bonds to the iron at a molecular level — it doesn’t peel or flake the way spray paint does — and it holds its color and texture through years of desert sun and seasonal rain.
For gate hardware (hinges, latches, and locking mechanisms), we use components rated for exterior use and recommend a tune-up every year or two to keep everything operating correctly. If anything ever needs adjustment, our team handles repairs and tune-ups on gates and doors we’ve installed.
